Journey Through Music Since 1883
Rehearsal every Wednesday at 6:30pm
We come together for rehearsals every Wednesday evening at 6:30pm. Our musical director Laurie Green is always keen to expand our repertoire by incorporating new arrangements regularly. The band enjoys supporting community events such as Anzac Day & Remembrance Day. We pride ourselves with our major annual events.
We hold an annual band collaboration day with other local bands & also regularly liaise with other band directors to explore further opportunities. We previously performed monthly at the East Ballina Lions Club Markets, however as these markets are currently closed, we are looking for further opportunities to have a regular performance in the local community. Let us know if you know of any opportunities for us to perform.
We perform a variety of music, such as movie themes, contemporary songs, marches, hymns & popular tunes.
Ballina Shire Concert Band has been performing since 1883 & is possibly the longest continuous serving band in Australia.
MUSICAL DIRECTOR - LAURIE GREEN
Laurie started his musical life sometime last century as a junior in Brass Bands in western Sydney. This led Laurie to a baptism by fire after he was rapidly promoted to the cornet ranks in St. Marys band, at the time one of Sydney’s better A-grade contesting bands.
Over the following years, Laurie played with both St. Marys and a number of other Western Sydney bands in competitions across the country, along with a variety of pit orchestras, small brass ensembles, community orchestras and a range of ensembles large and small.
Laurie escaped Sydney in 1985 and quickly found himself playing in local bands and orchestras and as conductor of the then Northern Rivers Concert Band (Now Lismore City Concert Band.)
Laurie’s musical experiences are diverse: Brass and Concert Bands, Symphony Orchestras, German Oompah Bands, Big Bands, Soul, Funk, Neo Swing, brass quintets and small ensembles to name just some.
Laurie currently performs with Lismore Symphony Orchestra and enjoys the challenge of conducting the Ballina Shire Concert Band.
